The company Stena Line operates various passenger and vehicle ferries. The service between Harwich (United Kingdom) and Hoek van Holland (Netherlands) is referred to as Stena Line BV (StL) in the context of FIP.

The ferry connections on the Irish Sea are operated as a separate FIP operator, Stena Line Limited (SLL).

  • Hoek van Holland to Harwich: 14:15 – 19:45, 6:30h (Stena Britannica)
  • Harwich to Hoek van Holland: 09:00 – 17:15, 7:15h (Stena Hollandica)

A cabin can be booked optionally.

Ferry (Night Service)

One ferry operates in each direction:

  • Hoek van Holland to Harwich: 22:00 – 06:30, 9:30h (Stena Hollandica)
  • Harwich to Hoek van Holland: 23:00 – 08:00, 8:00h (Stena Britannica)

Cabin reservation is mandatory.2

Class Categories

There is only one class on the ships with regard to FIP.

When booking a cabin, you can choose between Standard, Superior, and Deluxe options. 3 No FIP discount is granted on cabins. 2

Ticket and Reservation Purchase

FIP tickets must be purchased before the journey. Purchase on board the ships is not possible. FIP only grants a discount on the fare; all additional services are charged at full price. These include, among others, cabin reservation costs, vehicle transport, as well as port fees and environmental charges. With a FIP Coupon, the fare is free of charge. Generally, the overnight crossing is more expensive than the day crossing. This is because the fare is higher at night and cabin reservation is mandatory.4

Booking is only possible in English. A spelling alphabet can help when providing names and other details. Travel dates, passport, and FIP Card should be kept ready.

For overnight journeys, cabin reservation is mandatory.

Personal Tip
To avoid additional costs when calling abroad, you can use the app Satellite. It offers 100 free minutes per month for international calls. A German residence is required for registration and registration may take a few days.

On-Site

On the day of travel, bookings can be made on-site, subject to availability. 4

Purchase on board the ships is not possible.

Discounts

Children up to 4 years travel free of charge, children aged 4 to 14 are entitled to a 50% discount on the adult fare, from 14 years they pay the adult fare. 2

Recommendations

Arrival at the station Hoek van Holland Haven is usually via Metro Line B from Rotterdam and Schiedam.

  • Station Schiedam Centrum: direct transfer to IC and RE trains of NS.
  • Station Rotterdam Centraal: transfer options to NS trains. To reach Hoek van Holland, change from Metro Line D at station Beurs.
Important Information

RET N.V. does not accept FIP, so a regular ticket must be purchased for the metro ride. This also works contactless and with ApplePay.

In Harwich, there is a connection at Harwich International station to Greater Anglia trains to/from London.

Personal Tip

Stena Line offers a great way to be in London before 10 am if you invest a little more time the day before. The afternoon can be spent in Rotterdam or at the nearby beach, which is only one metro stop away. If you are in a hurry, you should change at Schiedam Centrum station.
