Koleje Małopolskie, abbreviated KMŁ, is a Polish railway company that mainly provides regional services in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. It is one of five different companies offering FIP in Poland.

On its website, KMŁ provides an overview of the operated lines. It should be noted that some routes are also served in parallel by other operators.

Summary

  • KMŁ accepts FIP Coupons and FIP 50 Tickets.
  • Only 2nd class is available on the trains and no reservations are possible.

FIP Coupons and FIP 50 Tickets are valid on KMŁ.

For journeys with different operators within Poland, either a continuous FIP 50 Ticket or FIP Coupons from both operators must be available.

Train Categories and Reservations

KMŁ does not differentiate between train categories. The trains are indicated in the timetable with the abbreviation “KMŁ” at the beginning, followed by a specific train number. Line numbers do exist but are usually not displayed in the timetable. Only 2nd class tickets are offered, as there is no 1st class on KMŁ trains. Additionally, there is no possibility to make reservations.

Whether FIP tickets are also valid on KMŁ buses is currently unknown to us. However, on rail replacement services, they should be accepted as with other operators.

Ticket and Reservation Purchase

Important Information

Since KMŁ has only been a FIP member since 01.04.2026, the booking options are currently still very limited and are expected to be gradually expanded.

On-Site

Koleje Małopolskie Ticket Office

KMŁ operates a manageable network of ticket offices at the most important stations. In terms of language, it is helpful to speak some Polish or to have a suitable translation app, as English (or German) is often not widely spoken.

FIP 50 Tickets

FIP 50 Tickets for journeys within the KMŁ network should be available for purchase at the KMŁ Ticket Office.

On the Train

FIP 50 Tickets must be purchased before departure at stations where the ticket office is open.1 If there is no open ticket office, tickets can also be purchased directly on the train. For this, the on-board staff must be sought out after boarding. Tickets can be paid for in cash or by contactless credit card. Payment is only possible in the local currency Złoty.

Discounts

We currently have no information about discounts.

Personal Tip

The new FIP member KMŁ is a great addition for journeys on the Polish rail network. Even though not much is known about FIP usage yet, it should be as easy and convenient as with the other regional railway companies in the country. On some routes, trains from PKP InterCity and Polregio also run in parallel, so when using a FIP Coupon, an additional FIP Coupon from PKP is very helpful to avoid being too limited in the choice of trains.

Travel highlights with KMŁ include the well-known amusement park Energylandia (station Zator Park Rozrywki) and the Wieliczka Salt Mine (station Wieliczka-Rynek-Kopalnia).
